oh there are so many reasons…you all are determined. you share recipes. you encourage each other. you cheer for each other. you share muffins and healthy brownies when chocolate is needed. you work hard. really hard. but here’s another reason I read this a.m. in a devotional:
“…correcting one’s faults seemed to depend entirely on will power, directed at eliminating them. Bad habits and compulsions cannot be conquered by determined resolutions or promising ourselves that we won’t go on doing this or that. They cannot be rooted out – for what would fill that vacuum? They must be replaced – with their opposites. The secret is to substitute the positive for the negative – the I will for the I won’t.”
wow. i love that. that is our group. just made Sharon’s microwave muffins with fresh strawberries. will post that one later today – thanks, Sharon! But first, I have to go to a fitness workshop all day where I will learn more techniques in how to torture, I mean train, you!
btw, did anyone else try something like chocolate chip cookies last night? did anyone else feel sick?! 🙂
ok, I just came home, passing four wrecks, checked the weather and it’s supposed to get worse. Our heat on the first floor just went out, and we will live on the 2nd floor until they come. 🙂 I will see everybody at 5:20 and 6:00pm Monday! Enjoy your weekend…as I’m sure you will be adding back in only one food group at a time…
We did it. I wasn’t sure I could. Some of you said the same thing, but we did! We went without diet cokes, milk, hummas, crackers, wine, pasta, and yes, even chocolate (well, a little cocoa for some). I CANNOT believe it.
Now it looks as though our last workout may be iced out from the weather predictions. If we do have ice like they say, then we will make up this last session Monday at regular times – 5:20pm and 6:00pm. I will post again later today after we see if the weather actually happens…ENJOY THE LAST DAY! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
ok, that’s squash, zucchini, onion, sweet potato, and purple potato! So slice em up (works with all veggies except broccoli), throw them in a ziplock or bowl and add some olive oil and garlic. Mix thoroughly and throw on a cookie sheet, baking at 400 for 20 min. yum. Especially great when you have a little of this and a little of that left in your fridge.
if it really is, then why did I want to cheat so so badly tonight?! I think I’m tired and it wasn’t a great work day, and now I realize I do comfort myself with food or drink at times. Oh my. Had two salads today – one with chicken and one with salmon. both yummy. but I really want a chocolate milkshake right now – anyone else feeling it?
Tomorrow will be mostly upper body/cardio and Friday night is boot camp style fun.
Coffee with skim milk and a sugar, two soy lattes, an 8 ounce glass of orange juice, and a 5 ounce glass of red wine…all contribute to about 500+ calories in a day! and it’s not even food; definitely something to watch out for when our 10 days is up.
And a word on grains as we head toward our goal of Friday: “THERE IS NOT A SINGLE HEALTH-PROMOTING SUBSTANCE PRESENT IN GRAINS THAT YOU CAN’T ALSO GET FROM VEGETABLES AND FRUIT. Not a single vitamin. Not a single mineral. Not even fiber.” Plus if you have a bunch of grains on your plate, that is leaving less room for vegetables. 🙂 (source: It Starts With Food).
We are gonna make it. I’m mostly posting this reminder for myself, as my daughter walks by with a small bowl of cheez-its, which have never looked better to me! How sad is that. Keep your food logs going — maybe we should burn them Friday night?! Seriously, we’ll have one more food log share Friday after your group workouts at 5:20pm and 6:00pm.
Reminder for tonight: bring gloves and wear a sweatshirt. You also may want your ipod on your arm for tonight – you aren’t in the basement the whole time. 🙂
